TAPER
Client: Bolia
Year: 2019
taper is a series of formally cognate hand-blown drinking glasses and a matching carafe for danish furnishing house Bolia. The aim was to create a process for enabling a variety of shapes through simple methods and minimal technical effort. The four different drinking glas shapes produced rely upon the same basic mould. Through inlaid discs a machined wooden mould can be easily modified, shortening the tapered lower part of the cavity. Likewise the moulding blanks, which are cylindrical towards the top, can be cut at different extents. In this way vessels with varying bottom and overall heights can be manufactured.

jüngerkühn is a design studio creating products, digital manufacturing processes and installations.
In their digital craft based practice they challenge the boundaries of materials and manufacturing processes and experiment with new production methods and models. They use digital technologies like robotics to enable new material-driven production that draws on the richness of crafted objects. In their practice digital tools are especially interesting for the design and manufacturing of products as they allow for both larger quantities and high flexibility at the same time.
